# What if clarity isn't what you've been waiting for?

## The difference between clarity and certainty

The more desperately you try to figure out your entire future, the harder it becomes to hear what today is asking of you. Sometimes the pressure isn't a sign that you're lost. It's a sign that you're trying to carry more than this moment was meant to hold.

When life takes an unexpected turn, the mind often begins negotiating with the future. "If I can just figure out what's going to happen, maybe I'll finally feel okay." Yet the search for certainty often creates the very exhaustion it promises to relieve.

> Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Many people believe they are looking for clarity when they are actually looking for certainty.
The difference matters.
Certainty wants guarantees. It wants to know how every decision will unfold and what every outcome will mean. Clarity asks a simpler question: What is the next right step?
After an unplanned pregnancy, that distinction can feel almost impossible to see. The future suddenly feels larger than your ability to manage it. Questions multiply faster than answers. The pressure grows because your mind keeps reaching beyond today, searching for information that does not yet exist.
What often feels like a lack of peace is actually the burden of trying to carry a future you cannot yet see.
This is why Proverbs invites us away from leaning entirely on our own understanding. The verse recognizes a truth we often resist: peace does not come from mastering the future. It comes from trusting God within uncertainty.
God's promise is not that every detail will become clear immediately. His promise is that he will direct the path.
That means you do not need to carry five years from now in order to faithfully live today. Wisdom is often smaller and more practical than we expect. It is listening, trusting, and taking the next step available to you.
Sometimes the first glimpse of peace arrives when certainty loosens its grip and trust takes its place.

Peace rarely begins when every question is answered. It often begins when you stop requiring certainty before you are willing to take the next faithful step.

## One Practice

Notice where you are waiting for complete reassurance before moving forward. Ask yourself what you believe certainty would give you, then choose one small step you already know is wise, even while questions remain unanswered.

The desire for certainty is understandable, especially when life feels uncertain. Yet peace often arrives not when the future finally explains itself, but when trust becomes stronger than the need to know.
